Otaru Nanseki

Do you know about the building stones called "Sapporo Nanseki" or "Otaru Nanseki"? Nanseki was used as building material for various buildings around Sapporo and Otaru. This material was indispensable, an important part of developing Hokkaido since 200 years ago. A lot of Nanseki is used in the Otaru Canal. Also, it's helped define Hokkaido. It represents Hokkaido. Even now you can enjoy its beauty. Taking pride in our own traditional and regional material, we selected Nanseki for the front entrance material of Otaru YaDo.

Otaru Unga

Otaru Canal is one of the most popular tourist attractions. The neighborhood is lined with historical structures such as European inspired architecture, gaslights and renovated warehouses containing restaurants and more. The Bank of Japan Otaru Museum utilises European architecture which was built in the Meiji era. After having functioned as a bank, it is now one of the popular finance-related tourist attractions. The canal floor of Otaru YaDo is conscious of water.

SoukoGun

Otaru was once a major shipping port for Hokkaido, thus many warehouses were necessary to store supplies. In the Taisho era, the now famous Otaru Canal was created to efficiently carry loads. Also, along the canal many warehouses were built. The charming character of the warehouses of Otaru are their timber-framed stone construction. The interior pillar and beams are made of wood while the outside is entirely constructed of stone. These days, the warehouses are still in use. They're an attraction that transports you back in time and remains one of Otaru's most important tourism landmarks.

Grass Kougei

Once you alight the elevator your eyes are greeted by a colourful interior. This colourfulness is associated with the glass works of Otaru glass makers. On this floor we host events inspired by Otaru's good old culture. You might feel as if you were in an art museum when you step into the exhibition space. This space will refresh you. Reflect on your travels and time will pass you by without realizing it.

The cloth and flooring materials of the guest rooms were carefully selected; "hold history and people in esteem", you feel the culture of Otaru. In addition, the color blue which is associated with the sea and the canal of Otaru, was chosen for bedding. Our wish is for all our guests to have a good night's sleep

We are just an 8-minute walk from JR Otaru Station. Head on down the slope of Chuo Dori, then pass on through the Miyako Dori street mall. You will find Otaru YaDo on the Bank of Japan Street. You can enjoy the Otaru canal, art village, an art museum, the former Temiya Train Line which is famous for photo shooting. Many local businesses are built within Otaru's historic buildings. They include the Bank of Japan Otaru Museum and many long-established stores such as historical sushi restaurants and famous brands. All within walking distance of Otaru YaDo. Otaru YaDo is located on the corner of this stylish town, where you can fully feel the charm of Japanese and Western style. Old and new.
